2022 Summer Reading Program
Summer Reading Program to run June 22-July 27 on Wednesday mornings 10:30am – 11:30am.
For children who will be entering grades 1-6 in the Fall of 2022.
Please register at the library by June 11.
Tentative schedule:
June 22 – Pirates
June 29 – Shark Week
July 6 – Whales
July 13 – Coral Reefs
July 20 – Ocean Day (Japanese Holiday)
July 27 – Lighthouses
Every week there will be reading (of course!) and other activities, games, STEM projects, and arts & crafts. Children can win prizes for the reading they’ve done during the week. For every hour of independent reading, they may choose a small weekly prize. For every 5 hours of reading Pizza Hut is providing certificates for a free personal pan pizza as part of their Book It! Program.
2021 Summer Reading Program
Readers of all ages will explore the animal kingdom this summer as Mansfield Free Public Library presents “Tails and Tales.” The 2021 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with video story time’s, grab & go kits, outdoor programs, and prize drawings. The program is free of charge and offers lots of fun, engaging activities and enrichment for your children.
Please wear a mask whenever you come to the library or an outdoor program.
Library summer reading programs encourage children to read, learn and have fun while maintaining their reading skills. Children who read during the summer gain valuable reading skills, while children who do not may slide backward, losing reading progress they made the previous school year.

The Mansfield Free Public Library is interested in what your opinions are on the 2021 Summer Reading Program, and what your opinion would be on future programming ideas. Please fill out the survey -> Online Survey or stop by the library to fill out a paper survey.
Video Story Time
For Summer Reading the Library normally has a weekly story time, but this year all story times will be recorded and posted online for you to view and participate with at home. Each story time video will be one part story time and one part guided craft/activity, with a related grab & go bag that can be picked up at the library or printed off at home. Weekly recorded story time’s can be found on the Mansfield Free Public Libraries YouTube channel.

To get notified when the videos go up you can subscribe to the YouTube channel, follow the library on Facebook, or check the Calendar on the libraries website.
Grab & Go Kits
Each story time video will be one part story time and one part guided craft/activity, with a related grab & go bag that can be picked up at the library or printed off at home.
The grab and go bags will have some of the supplies needed for the craft/activity, a list of the books used in story time that week, a list of supplies needed for the craft/activity, written instructions for the craft/activity, Activity Tickets, and any other handouts that were prepared. If you cannot stop by the library to get a grab & go bag, or we have run out, all the paper parts of the grab & go bag will be available as a PDF in the videos description that can be printed out.
Outdoor Programs
There will be some outdoor events/programs that will be held at the nearby Max Colegrove Park. Due to limited parking at the park, please park at the library and walk over to the park. Please wear a mask whenever you come to the library or an outdoor program.

Prizes
Activity Tickets can be earned by completing the activity described on the ticket, filled out, and exchanged for prizes at the library. You can get activity tickets from video story times/grab & go’s, outdoor programs, and the library. Please wear a mask whenever you come to the library or an outdoor program.
Their are three types of prizes you can exchange Activity Tickets for; 1 ticket prizes, 2 ticket prizes, or the big prize drawing for the end of the program.
Read for 30 minutes a day for a full week to earn a Free! Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut as a part of the Mansfield Free Public Libraries Summer Reading Program.
This part of the Summer Reading Program will run from June 1 to August 28 and is for children, preschool through young adult (ages 2 – 17). You can read any books, magazines, or newspapers by yourself or with an adult and record it on the Reading Tracker. when you’ve finished a Reading Tracker bring it to the library to redeem it, and get your Free! Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut.
